Gene

Gene is a British indie rock band that formed in London in the early 1990s. This San Francisco concert brings the group to The Fillmore, a music venue on Fillmore Street in the Western Addition.

Gene is an indie rock band from London, active since the early 1990s and closely associated with the British guitar pop scene of the mid-1990s. The group is fronted by Martin Rossiter, whose vocals and melodic songwriting shaped its sound. Its debut album, Olympian, released in 1995, is the record most often cited among its catalog, and the band's later albums continued the same blend of jangling guitars and sung melodies.

The band's music draws on the classic British pop tradition of the 1960s and 1970s, with the emphasis on tuneful choruses and crisp, guitar-driven arrangements. This program suits listeners who followed the band in the 1990s and those who enjoy British indie rock with strong vocal melodies.

The Fillmore is a music venue in San Francisco, historically linked to the city's rock scene since the 1960s, when promoter Bill Graham presented shows there. It hosts concerts across a range of genres, and this evening places a British indie act in that long-running room.
