Jorge Celedon - La Historia Mia

A concert by Jorge Celedon, presented as world music, at The Vanguard in Orlando. The evening centers on the vallenato tradition of Colombia's Caribbean coast.

Jorge Celedon is a Colombian vallenato singer. Vallenato grew out of the Caribbean region of Colombia around Valledupar, and its traditional ensemble is built on the accordion, the caja drum and the guacharaca, a scraped percussion instrument. Its songs are rooted in storytelling and narrative lyrics. The title, La Historia Mia, translates as My Story.

The evening suits listeners drawn to Colombian folk traditions and to song-based storytelling in the vallenato style. The title points to a personal narrative, which fits the storytelling tradition of the genre. The Vanguard hosts concerts and shows in Orlando, and this performance is part of its live programming.
