Mother Soki

Minneapolis-based musician Mother Soki plays dream pop shaped by 1990s textures, with a concert at Kilowatt in San Francisco.

Mother Soki is a Minneapolis-based musician who began making music while attending college in Chicago, after trying several other art forms. The project works in dream pop and draws on the sonic nostalgia of the 1990s, citing The Sundays, Imogen Heap and Cocteau Twins as classic influences. The sound combines modern versions of vintage synthesizers with heavy guitars and airy, spacious vocals.

Mother Soki signed with the independent label Mom+Pop. The breakout single, "Rivet Gun," spread quickly on TikTok and reached millions of streams worldwide. Fan videos drew on scenes from the TV series Severance and clips from Prince's Purple Rain, another Minneapolis native, which helped bring the song to a wider audience.

The concert suits listeners who follow dream pop and the guitar-and-synth textures of the 1990s. Kilowatt hosts concerts and shows in San Francisco.
