Overview
Star Moles is the project of Emily Moales, who grew up in New Hampshire and is based in Philadelphia. Moales began recording on digital tape in 2017 and released four full-length LPs and numerous singles before this album. Those earlier works were conceptual and fantastical, drawing on literature and mythology.
Highway to Hell turns toward everyday life in Philadelphia and current events, with songs that address religious fanaticism, environmental collapse and the rise of fascism in America. Kevin Basko, whose production credits include Rubber Band Gun and Foxygen, produced the record. Guitarist Sam Sullivan and drummer Jem Seidel, both members of the Historic NJ Recordings collective run by Moales and Basko, contribute to the album.
The concert takes place at Songbyrd, a Washington venue that hosts concerts and shows, and is built around Star Moles'current material.
