Wax Monkey with Atom Cat

Wax Monkey, a five-piece jam band from Birmingham, Alabama, plays a New Orleans concert at Siberia alongside Atom Cat, with a sound rooted in Southern and psychedelic rock.

The members of Wax Monkey have been friends since childhood. They started playing together in high school and formed the band in 2023, while studying at the University of Alabama. Their approach to improvisation draws on the Grateful Dead, Phish and the Allman Brothers Band, whose long, exploratory playing shapes the project's identity.

Wax Monkey blends Southern rock, psychedelic rock and improvised jamming, and the band counts five members. The genre of the act sits within pop, rock and indie, with jam band traditions at its core. Atom Cat is also on the bill for this New Orleans evening.

Siberia is the New Orleans venue hosting the show, which puts concerts and shows on its calendar. The evening suits listeners who follow Southern rock and jam-oriented bands and want to hear a group that grew out of a shared musical history in Birmingham.
