Widespread Panic Friday

A rock concert in New Orleans at Lakefront Arena by Widespread Panic, the Athens, Georgia band, presented under the title Widespread Panic Friday.

Widespread Panic is a rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1986. Its songs often stretch into extended instrumental passages, and John Bell, the group's singer and guitarist, has led the band since its early years. Bassist Dave Schools and drummer Todd Nance form the rhythm section. Guitarist Michael Houser, a founding member, died in 2002.

The band's catalog includes the studio album Space Wrangler (1988) and Light Fuse, Get Away (1997), both built on the blues, Southern rock and jam-oriented sounds that run through its work. The Friday title on this date suggests a single show within the band's touring schedule in New Orleans.

Lakefront Arena hosts concerts and shows in New Orleans, so this evening suits listeners who follow Widespread Panic's long-running, improvisation-driven rock and want to hear the band in the city.
