About — The artist
Alex Amen is an American folk musician from Texas, described by his label, ATO, as an artist untethered from time and place. After abandoning film studies in California, he joined the Dittman family's commune in Anaheim in 2017 and founded his first band there, the psychedelic folk-rock group American Slang. Following its break-up, he spent three years in isolation on Vashon Island in Washington State.
In January 2023, he self-produced his first EP, The Zorthian Tapes, released in June 2025 and recorded at the Zorthian Ranch in Altadena. His first album, Sun of Amen, was released in June 2026 on ATO Records. Recorded in part at Valentine Studios in Los Angeles, it has been praised for its retro style, evoking Harry Nilsson, John Denver and Jim Croce.
