About — The artist
Chvrches (stylised as CHVRCHΞS and pronounced ‘Churches’) is a Scottish synth-pop group from Glasgow, formed in September 2011. The group is made up of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and, unofficially since 2018, Jonny Scott. Drawing mainly on synth-pop, Chvrches also incorporates indietronica, indie pop and electronic dance into its sound.
Two years after its formation, Chvrches released the EP Recover in March 2013, which included the hits ‘The Mother We Share’ and ‘Recover’. Its debut studio album, The Bones of What You Believe, was released on 20 September 2013, at the same time as the group ranked fifth on the BBC's Sound of 2013 list. Two years later, on 25 September 2015, the group released its second album, Every Open Eye. Its third album, Love Is Dead, went on sale on 25 May 2018. Its fourth album, Screen Violence, was released on 27 August 2021.
