About — The artist

Wednesday is an American rock band formed in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2017. The line-up comprises Karly Hartzman (vocals, guitar), MJ Lenderman (guitar, backing vocals), Xandy Chelmis (pedal steel, backing vocals), Alan Miller (drums) and Ethan Baechtold (bass). Their style has been described as a mix of shoegaze, noise rock and alternative country, while their lyrics have been praised for their ability to tell stories about life in the American South.

Wednesday was formed in 2017 as a solo project by Karly Hartzman, to which multi-instrumentalist Daniel Gorham joined shortly afterwards. The two recorded the band's debut album, yep definitely (2018), as a duo. The band expanded to five members with the addition of Miller, Chelmis and bassist Margo Schultz. Their second studio album, I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone, was released in 2020 to good reviews, followed by Twin Plagues in 2021, the first on which Lenderman appeared as a full member. In 2022, the band released a cover album titled Mowing the Leaves Instead of Piling 'em Up. Months after its release, the band left its label and signed with Dead Oceans.

In 2023, Wednesday released its fifth studio album, Rat Saw God, which received wide critical acclaim. It was the last record with Schultz, who painted the album cover. Due to extensive touring commitments, she was replaced by Baechtold. Their sixth album, Bleeds, was released on 19 September 2025, and Lenderman stepped back from touring before its release. For the tour supporting the record, he was replaced by Jake ‘Spyder’ Pugh.
