Adentro! - Diana Szeinblum

Argentine choreographer and dancer Diana Szeinblum presents the Community of Madrid premiere on 14 and 15 November in the Sala Negra at Teatros del Canal, as part of the Autumn Festival, featuring a modern dance show that revisions Argentine folklore through the lens of the body.

Diana Szeinblum began her professional career in the company directed by Oscar Araiz. In 1990 she received a scholarship from the Goethe Institute which allowed her to continue her training at the Folkwang Tanzstudio, a prestigious institution founded in 1928 by Kurt Jooss and later directed by Pina Bausch. Furthermore, Szeinblum also became a member of Tanztheater Wuppertal, the ensemble created by Bausch.

Her experience in contemporary dance meets Argentine tradition in this piece for three dancers which proposes an examination of folklore through movement and the body. The production starts from a central question: if dance engages every idea of the body, can we speak of the "Argentine body" instead of "Argentine dances"? From this perspective, it delves into the movement forms associated with Argentine folklore to ask what lies behind the gestures, postures and codes that tradition has passed down from generation to generation.

The creative process began with research into various Argentine folk dances and the documentation of their modes of execution. Thus, the proposal puts forward a deconstruction of folk dances and, at the same time, a reflection on inherited masculinity. The three performers strive to construct a "foreign body" on stage, moving away from established patterns to explore a language of their own. Tradition ceases to be understood as a fixed and immutable legacy and comes to be conceived as something mobile, permeable and susceptible to being transformed.
