Overview
A live tribute to the Brazilian singer and guitarist João Gilberto, performed by Mario Bakuna Band at Morocco Bound Bermondsey in Southwark, London, blending bossa nova with samba.
Mario Bakuna Band presents a tribute to João Gilberto, the Brazilian singer and guitarist whose recordings from the late 1950s helped establish bossa nova as a genre. The programme combines reinterpretations of Gilberto's repertoire with original compositions by Mario Bakuna, a Brazilian artist with more than twenty years of experience in this music.
On stage, Mario Bakuna performs on acoustic guitar and sings. The music blends traditional samba with the more sophisticated harmonies and syncopated rhythms of bossa nova, so the evening moves between the two styles rather than staying with one.
Morocco Bound Bermondsey is a venue in London that hosts concerts and shows. The evening will suit listeners interested in Brazilian popular music and in the bossa nova repertoire associated with João Gilberto.
