Richard Bona Quartet

A concert by the Richard Bona Quartet, presented by the jazz club Blue Note London in the centre of the capital. The evening is led by bassist and singer Richard Bona, a Cameroonian-American musician.

Richard Bona is a Cameroonian-American jazz singer and bassist, working between Afro-Cuban jazz and jazz. His debut album, Scenes From My Life, was released on the Sony Music label in 1999. The project presented here is the Richard Bona Quartet, which places the bassist and singer at the centre of a four-piece group, a format that suits the chamber-scale interplay of his music.

Bona's musical roots lie in Cameroon, and his work draws on West African melodic traditions alongside the rhythmic language of Cuban music and the harmonic vocabulary of jazz. Within the quartet, the bass and voice remain the focal points of the performance, with the other members sharing the ensemble material.

Blue Note London is a jazz club that hosts concerts and shows in London. The evening suits listeners interested in world music rooted in jazz, and those already familiar with Bona's recordings as well as newcomers to his bass playing and singing.
