Erratic Batting: Knats (Gearbox Records)

A jazz evening at Exchange in Bristol featuring Knats, a trio from Newcastle upon Tyne, presented by the Bristol promoter Erratic Batting, with King David Ike-Elechi named among the artists.

Knats are a trio from Newcastle upon Tyne who describe their sound as Geordie Jazz, combining rock grit, fusion and dance-floor grooves. The group grew out of a long-standing friendship between Stan Woodward on bass and King David Ike-Elechi on drums, and trumpeter Ferg Kilsby completes the line-up. Their most recent album, A Great Day In Newcastle, was produced by Geordie Greep of Black Midi and blends jazz with punk and spoken word.

After relocating to London in 2022 for training at Trinity Laban, the trio have played Jazz Refreshed and Rough Trade East, and have opened for Str4ta at Jazz Cafe and for Theon Cross at the BBC Proms. Their live performances draw on the same mix of fusion energy and rhythmic drive heard on their records.

Exchange is a Bristol venue that hosts concerts and shows. This night is presented by Erratic Batting, a Bristol promoter founded in 2017 with an eclectic booking policy that moves between jazz, psychedelia, soukous, disco and dancehall.
