Jane Eyre

A new stage adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre, presented as a theatre show at the Rose Theatre in Kingston, Surrey. It follows a young woman's search for independence and love.

This production retells Charlotte Brontë's novel as a theatre show, with the story of Jane, an orphan raised by a harsh aunt, who seeks a life beyond the confines of her childhood home. Her post as governess at Thornfield Hall brings her into contact with its reserved master, Mr Rochester, and the relationship that develops between them becomes the central thread of the evening.

The source presents the adaptation as a fresh reading of a well-known novel, with the emphasis on Jane's struggle for freedom and self-determination. As the attachment between the two characters deepens, a serious secret confronts Jane with a difficult decision between her feelings for Rochester and the person she intends to become. The material gives no further detail on staging, cast or running time.

The show is staged at the Rose Theatre, a venue in Kingston that hosts concerts and shows in the Surrey area. It suits audiences who know the novel as well as those coming to Brontë's story for the first time.
