Sol & The Gang

A Bristol show by Sol & The Gang, a hand-picked UK supergroup built around the vocals and choreography of J-Sol, drawing on RnB, hip-hop, soul and afrobeats.

Sol & The Gang is a supergroup assembled by J-Sol, a choreographer and singer linked to The X Factor, who brings together singers, musicians and dancers from across the UK. The music draws on RnB, hip-hop, soul and afrobeats. The name should not be confused with Kool and the Gang, the American funk, jazz and rhythm and blues group formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964 as The Jazziacs, whose self-titled debut album appeared on the De-Lite label in 1969.

On stage, the performance centres on J-Sol's lead vocals, with the choreography and the musicianship of the performers forming the core of the show. The repertoire moves through decades of black popular music, from Motown to the present day, mixing RnB classics with newer material. The current tour also accompanies brand-new original songs, and the programme is described as genre-blurring.

Electric Bristol hosts concerts and shows in the city. The evening will suit anyone drawn to RnB, soul and Motown-era songs performed with dance.
