Overview
A world music concert at The Lighthouse in London that brings together bashment and Afrobeats, two dance-led styles from Jamaica and West Africa.
Bashment X Afrobeats is a world music concert pairing two dance-led styles from either side of the Atlantic. Bashment is a Jamaican dancehall form built on up-tempo riddims and MC-led toasting, with a strong focus on party music. Afrobeats is a West African pop style that grew from Nigerian and Ghanaian music, drawing on highlife, funk and juju, and is now widely heard internationally.
The concert takes place at The Lighthouse, a London venue that hosts concerts and shows. The programme places these two genres side by side under one title, so the night centres on the rhythmic traditions they share and the links between Caribbean and West African dance music.
