Billy Cobham

A London concert by the Panamanian jazz drummer and composer Billy Cobham, performing with a full live band at the Barbican Hall. The listing presents it as a live band performance following earlier shows by the same organisers.

Billy Cobham is a Panamanian jazz drummer and composer, born in Colón in 1944 and active since 1968. The music spans post-bop, funk and jazz rock. The drummer's work with the trumpeter Miles Davis and then with the Mahavishnu Orchestra places Billy Cobham among the notable drummers of jazz fusion. The debut album, Spectrum, was released on Columbia Records in 1973.

This concert is a full live band performance at the Barbican Hall, a London venue that hosts concerts and shows. The organisers describe it as following earlier live shows with the same promoter, so the evening centres on the drummer leading a band in front of an audience. Those interested in jazz fusion and in the drumming of the Miles Davis and Mahavishnu Orchestra period will find the link between those projects clear from the artist's background.
