Dexy's Midnight Runners

Dexys Midnight Runners, the British pop band with soul influences, play a concert at the Hackney Empire in London. The listing covers the band's live performance on this visit to the capital.

Dexys Midnight Runners are a British pop band with soul influences, formed in Birmingham in 1978. They were active until 1986 and have reunited since 2003. Their first album, Searching for the Young Soul Rebels, was released on EMI in 1980. The band's sound draws on soul music, which sits at the centre of their identity from the early years onwards.

The band's best-known records date from their original run, and the concert brings the group's catalogue to a London audience at a venue whose main purpose is hosting concerts and shows. Details of the line-up and the repertoire played on stage are not set out in the listing, so the set is best understood as a live performance by the band rather than a specific programme.

The night is aimed at listeners who know the band's soul-inflected pop and those interested in British pop from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Hackney Empire is a London theatre venue hosting concerts and shows, and the evening suits anyone following the band's reunion work.
