Jack and The Beanstalk

A family pantomime at the Hackney Empire, in which Jack sells the family cow for a handful of magic beans and climbs a beanstalk into an enchanted land. Clive Rowe directs and stars.

Jack and the Beanstalk is a pantomime, staged at the Hackney Empire as part of its festive programme. Jack, a cheerful young hero, trades the family cow for magic beans, and the exchange sets off a series of events that takes him up into the clouds. On the way he finds an enchanted land and a powerful giant, and the question at the centre of the story is whether he can outwit the giant and save the day.

Clive Rowe, who is credited as both director and star, leads the production. The material describes it as combining comic routines, songs, dance numbers and elaborate costumes, with plenty of opportunities for the audience to take part. It is presented as suitable for adventurers of all ages, whether this is a first pantomime or an annual outing.

The Hackney Empire is a London theatre that hosts concerts and shows throughout the year, and this production is one of its seasonal pantomimes. Some performances include British Sign Language interpretation.
