Expecting

Expecting is a new play, given its world premiere at Riverside Studios in London, about two couples weighing whether and when to start a family. It is staged as part of the venue's Mainstage season.

The play follows Zoey and Ethan, who are deciding whether to have a baby while the rest of their lives seems settled. Zoey's younger sister Trish is already raising two children, and her new boyfriend Matt is also part of the family picture. The story looks at why couples are waiting longer to have children, or are questioning whether they want them at all, and at the pressures of career ambitions, legacy and parenting.

Directed by Andy Sandberg, the production is a new play by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola. The source presents it as a world premiere, so the staging is a fresh work rather than a revival. The comedy-drama framing suggests a dialogue-driven piece in which the two couples'conversations carry the action.

Riverside Studios is a London venue that hosts concerts and shows, and this production is part of its Mainstage season. The play will suit audiences interested in new writing about modern relationships and the choices that come with them.
