Kolinga

Kolinga is a French-Congolese fusion group fronted by the singer and composer Rébecca M'Boungou, who also works as a musician and author. The band blends contemporary music, jazz and Bantu music, and its name comes from the Lingala word meaning to love, or to connect when the emphasis falls on the second syllable. Their songs draw on stories of women and ancestors that have long gone untold, centred on listening to the rhythms of nature and everyday life.

The London date follows the release of a new album on Underdog Records, which the group describes as its first studio record since Legacy in 2022. The performance is a standing event and runs for around 90 minutes without an interval, so the evening is a single continuous set.

Kings Place is a multi-venue arts centre on the King's Cross canal side, and Hall Two is the room hosting this concert. The evening suits listeners interested in jazz-inflected world music and in Bantu-rooted songwriting performed live.
