The Play That Goes Wrong

The Play That Goes Wrong is a comedy in which a student drama society attempts a 1920s murder mystery and sees almost every element of the production fail. It is presented at the Duchess Theatre in London.

The show follows the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, a group of amateur performers staging a 1920s murder mystery. Nearly every stage effect and scene goes awry, and the cast press on towards the final curtain, so the comedy rests on physical mishaps and timing rather than on the plot alone.

The production is a stand-up and comedy piece presented in a theatre auditorium, with a cast of thirteen performers listed on the page. Critics quoted in the source material describe it as a gut-busting hit and praise the staging and the precise timing of the sequences. The Daily Mail awarded it five stars.

The Duchess Theatre is a London venue that hosts concerts and shows. The production has won several awards, including Olivier and WhatsOnStage recognition for new comedy, and it suits audiences who enjoy farce and slapstick.
