The Urmetazoan

The Urmetazoan is a stand-up and comedy show at Hampstead Theatre in London, built around the relationship between two sisters, Alice and Abigail. The piece is presented as a new work by writers and a director at the theatre.

The show follows Alice and Abigail, two sisters whose contrasting lives pull them apart and bring them back together. Alice is preparing to leave Earth on a one-way mission into deep space, while Abigail prefers to stay at home. As they rediscover their closeness, the idea of saying goodbye proves harder than either of them expected, and the story is shaped by the sense that a countdown has already begun.

The listing describes the production as a comedy in the stand-up tradition, with a script written by Alex Rugman, a writer and co-artistic director of Freight Theatre, and staged by Anna Ledwich. Rugman is a graduate of Hampstead's Inspire Programme and has previously written for the Pleasance Theatre, Camden People's Theatre and Peckham Fringe. Ledwich has worked at Hampstead on several earlier productions.

Hampstead Theatre is the venue hosting the show in London. The production is aimed at audiences who enjoy comedy with a personal, character-driven story, and captioned and touch tour performances are listed for certain dates.
