Reflections: William Basinski + Purelink

An electronic evening pairing composer William Basinski with the electronic act Purelink, presented at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel in Chicago.

William Basinski is an American composer working in ambient and electronic music. His best-known project, The Disintegration Loops, was built in the early 2000s from tape loops that degrade audibly over their length, a process that gives the long, slowly shifting pieces their character. Much of his work centers on sustained textures and gradual change rather than conventional song structures.

This program places Basinski alongside Purelink, an electronic act, under the title Reflections. The pairing puts two electronic practices in one evening, with the emphasis on atmosphere and sound rather than on a single featured performer.

Rockefeller Memorial Chapel is a Gothic Revival building on the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park, and it hosts concerts and shows throughout the year. The evening suits listeners interested in ambient and electronic music who want to hear extended, texture-driven compositions in a church setting.
