Route 66: The Main Street of America

A film concert built around Route 66, the U.S. highway whose name is the title of this program. It is staged at the Los Angeles Theatre, a historic movie palace in downtown Los Angeles.

Route 66: The Main Street of America is a film concert, a program in which music is performed alongside a film. The title refers to U.S. Route 66, the highway that ran from Chicago to Santa Monica after it was established in 1926 and was decommissioned in 1985 when interstate routes replaced it. Its nickname, the Main Street of America, is the phrase used for the road in the title.

The Los Angeles Theatre is a historic movie palace on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. Its screen-and-stage tradition fits a program that combines film with live music. The evening suits anyone interested in American road history, film scores, or the highway's links to Los Angeles, which was the route's western end.
