Overview
A Halloween-themed literary cabaret at Visceral Adventure Lounge in Chicago, built around noir poetry read by local poets and combined with jazz, movement, tarot and visual art.
The Poetry Brothel Chicago: MONSTERS! is a Halloween cabaret built around noir poetry, read on stage by Chicago poets. Between readings, the program moves through live jazz, movement, tarot and visual art, while performers appear as creatures with crimson lips, detectives, vampires and lupine figures in tailored suits.
Guests can commission a custom typewritten poem or book a private one-on-one reading with one of the poets. Private readings continue later in the program. Guests are invited to come in costume, dressed as the creature they feel most connected to.
The outing suits Halloween fans, poetry lovers and groups of friends looking for a themed show rather than a conventional night out. It takes place at Visceral Adventure Lounge, a Chicago venue that hosts shows.
