Overview
A Javanese shadow puppet play with music, presented at Epiphany Center for the Arts in Chicago. Wayang is the traditional form of Javanese shadow puppet theater.
Wayang is the traditional Javanese shadow puppet theater, in which a puppeteer moves carved figures behind a lit screen so that their silhouettes carry the story to the audience. This show brings a Javanese shadow puppet play together with music, so the performance combines the visual art of the puppets with sound.
The performance takes place at Epiphany Hall, part of Epiphany Center for the Arts, a Chicago venue that hosts concerts and shows. Shadow puppet theater suits anyone interested in Javanese performing arts, and the pairing of play and music offers a way to encounter this tradition in a single performance.
