Chris Acker

A concert by Chris Acker, a New Orleans songwriter working in folk, blues and country, with Jonny Fritz on the bill. The show takes place at Permanent Records Roadhouse in Los Angeles.

Chris Acker writes candid songs from New Orleans that blend folk, blues and country. The writing sits in the vein of Guthrie and Prine, with a quavering voice and lyrics built on wit, personal hardship and a frank, often humorous look at ordinary life. The subjects are unglamorous: worn-out romance, neighborhood bars and cratered streets, observed with a pained honesty that rewards a second listen.

The songwriting draws on the folk revival and the golden age of country music, and its sound has been shaped by punk shows and brass bands as well. Each song reflects long hours spent studying older songwriters, along with the lessons learned from their mistakes.

Jonny Fritz also appears on this bill, and Nikolai Shveitser is named alongside Chris Acker. The evening suits listeners who follow singer-songwriter folk, blues and country, and the venue, Permanent Records Roadhouse, hosts concerts and shows in Los Angeles.
