Chuck Redd Bebop to Brazil

Bebop to Brazil, led by vibraphonist and drummer Chuck Redd, is a jazz concert in New Orleans that pairs bebop phrasing with Brazilian rhythms and melodies, staged at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro.

Chuck Redd is a jazz vibraphonist and drummer, and Bebop to Brazil is the project under which this concert is presented. The program connects the bebop language that emerged in the 1940s with the rhythms and melodic colors of Brazilian music, drawing on the long exchange between American jazz and bossa nova. The vibraphone's sustained tones and clear attacks suit both fast bebop lines and samba-based grooves, which is the core of this repertoire.

Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro is a New Orleans venue hosting concerts and shows, and its name places jazz at the center of its programming. The evening is aimed at listeners who follow jazz closely, as well as those who want to hear how bebop and Brazilian jazz share common ground.

Anyone drawn to mid-century bebop, bossa nova, or the cross-currents between the two will find the link between these styles at the heart of the performance.
