Diego Rodriguez Big Band featuring Walter Smith III

A big band jazz concert in Chicago led by Diego Rodriguez, with tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III as featured guest, held in Epiphany Hall at the Epiphany Center for the Arts.

Diego Rodriguez Big Band is a large jazz ensemble led by Diego Rodriguez. The big band format, with sections of saxophones, trombones and trumpets, traces back to the swing and bebop orchestras of the 1930s and 1940s, and the ensemble works within that tradition of arranged group playing built around featured soloists.

Walter Smith III is a tenor saxophonist and bandleader who has recorded under his own name. In this concert, Smith joins the big band as the featured guest, giving the evening a clear focal point for solo playing within the ensemble's arrangements.

Epiphany Center for the Arts hosts concerts and shows in Chicago, and this performance takes place in its Epiphany Hall. The evening suits listeners who follow contemporary big band jazz and modern saxophone playing.
