Henry Carpender

Henry Carpender is a jazz act performing at Fitzgeralds Sidebar in Berwyn, a venue that hosts concerts and shows in the western Chicago suburbs.

Henry Carpender performs jazz, a genre that developed in African American communities in New Orleans around the turn of the twentieth century and grew through swing, bebop and their many successors. Jazz rests on improvisation over a shared harmonic framework, and its performers often build their playing on standards from the American songbook as well as on original compositions.

The concert takes place at Fitzgeralds Sidebar, which hosts concerts and shows in Berwyn, a suburb west of Chicago. It suits listeners who want to hear live jazz in the western suburbs without traveling into the city. Newcomers to the genre can follow a performance by watching how each soloist takes a turn over the rhythm section, typically the piano, bass and drums that keep the tempo and harmony steady.
