Immersion (Colin Newman of Wire & Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact)

A concert by Immersion, the project of Colin Newman of Wire and Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact, presented at Zebulon in Los Angeles. It brings together two members of post-punk bands from different generations.

Colin Newman is a founding member of Wire, the British post-punk group formed in London in 1976. Its debut album, Pink Flag, appeared in 1977, and the band's later records Chairs Missing (1978) and 154 (1979) are among its best-known releases. Malka Spigel is part of Minimal Compact, the band that Spigel brings to this collaboration alongside Newman's work with Wire.

Immersion is presented as a project joining these two artists, so the evening is a meeting of their respective catalogs rather than a tribute or a reunion of either band. Listeners who follow Wire's angular guitar-driven post-punk, or Minimal Compact's songs, will find a direct link to each artist's own material.

Zebulon hosts concerts and shows in Los Angeles, and this date is one of its live music listings. The night suits anyone interested in the lineage of British post-punk and its continuation in the Los Angeles scene.
