Laya

A concert by Laya at The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles, from an act whose music moves across R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae.

Laya is a music project working across R&B, soul, funk, gospel and reggae, styles that share roots in Black American music and Jamaican rhythm. Soul and R&B carry emphasis on expressive vocals and groove, funk adds rhythm-led bass and horn-style phrasing, gospel brings harmony and call-and-response singing, and reggae contributes its offbeat guitar and bass patterns from Jamaica.

The Peppermint Club hosts concerts and shows in Los Angeles, and this evening places Laya on its stage. Listeners drawn to crossovers between soulful vocals and reggae or gospel textures will hear how these traditions meet in one act. The night suits fans of soul, funk and reggae who want several genres within a single performance.
