Mother Soki, Alana Markel

Mother Soki and Alana Markel share a bill at Color Club in Chicago. Mother Soki is a Minneapolis-based musician whose dream pop blends vintage synths with heavy guitars.

Mother Soki is a Minneapolis-based musician who came to music while studying at a college in Chicago, after trying several other art forms. The project signed with the independent label Mom+Pop in early 2025.

Mother Soki's sound leans on dream pop and the textures of the 1990s, with The Sundays, Imogen Heap and Cocteau Twins cited as classic influences. Vintage synthesizers meet heavy guitars and airy, spacious vocals, a mix that sounds unlikely on paper but holds together in the songs.

Alana Markel appears on the bill alongside Mother Soki at Color Club, a Chicago venue that hosts concerts and shows. The evening suits listeners who follow pop, rock and indie music.
