Sidaka is a jazz act, and this concert places the project within a genre that took shape in New Orleans around the turn of the twentieth century, drawing on blues, ragtime, and African American church and work-song traditions. Jazz is built on improvisation over a shared harmonic and rhythmic framework.

Chicago became a major center for the style in the 1910s and 1920s, when musicians who had left New Orleans settled in the city during the Great Migration. Clara Chicago is a venue in Chicago that hosts concerts and shows, and listeners who follow jazz can hear this act there.
