The Airborne Toxic Event is an American indie rock band formed in Los Angeles in 2006. The group signed to Island Records, and its first album, also titled The Airborne Toxic Event, was released in 2008. The band belongs to the generation of American indie rock acts that emerged in the mid-to-late 2000s.

The band's material falls under pop, rock and indie, and this concert brings the group to Washington, D.C. The 9:30 Club is a venue for concerts and shows in the city, so the evening suits listeners who follow American indie rock and want to hear the band's work from its first album onward.
