The Book of Mormon

A staging of the musical The Book of Mormon, a comedy by the South Park creators Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone, presented at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas.

The Book of Mormon is a musical with music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone, who also wrote its book. Parker and Stone created the animated series South Park, and their irreverent humor shapes both the score and the script. The show opened on Broadway in 2011 and won the Tony Award for Best Musical that year.

The story follows two young Mormon missionaries assigned to a village in Uganda, where their plans for converting the community meet the realities of daily life there. The satire turns on faith, missionary zeal and cultural misunderstanding. The production uses strong language and adult themes, so it suits grown audiences who enjoy sharp, irreverent comedy.

The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Resort hosts concerts and shows in Las Vegas, and this production is presented there on this visit to the city. Viewers familiar with the South Park creators'satirical style will recognize the tone, while those expecting a traditional religious drama will find a comedy instead.
