The Mountain Grass Unit works in the blues, country and folk traditions, three styles that share roots in American rural songwriting. Folk carries traditional songs and oral storytelling, blues brings twelve-bar forms and first-person accounts of hardship, and country adds rural narratives and Southern vocal traditions.
