Overview
A staged musical based on The Who's rock opera Tommy, presented at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. The show adapts the story and songs of the 1969 double album.
Tommy is a rock opera written by Pete Townshend, guitarist and songwriter of The Who, the London band formed in 1964 with Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. The double album Tommy, released in 1969, follows a boy who becomes deaf, dumb and blind after witnessing a murder. Its best-known songs include "Pinball Wizard" and "See Me, Feel Me," both drawn from the album.
The stage musical keeps that narrative at its core, moving the album's songs and story from the record to the theater stage. The album's storyline, with its mix of rock and rock opera, is the basis for the production.
The Hollywood Pantages Theatre hosts concerts and shows in Los Angeles. The production suits audiences interested in rock musicals and in the catalog of The Who, as well as those who know the 1969 album and want to hear its songs performed live in a theater setting.
