Ultimate Johnny Cash

A tribute show devoted to the music of Johnny Cash, the American singer-songwriter whose blues, country and folk recordings shaped the sound of American roots music. Ultimate Johnny Cash is presented in Skokie.

Ultimate Johnny Cash is a tribute act. It celebrates the catalog of Johnny Cash, who recorded for Sun Records in Memphis in the mid-1950s and went on to record for Columbia Records. His best-known songs include "I Walk the Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues," and his 1968 live album "At Folsom Prison" remains one of the most widely heard concert recordings in country music. Cash's work drew on gospel, folk and blues, and the genre of this tribute reflects those roots.

The show is not performed by Johnny Cash, and it is presented as a homage to the original artist's songs and style. Its country, blues and folk repertoire will appeal to listeners who know Cash's records and to those who want to hear his songs performed live.

The George Van Dusen Theatre at North Shore Center hosts concerts and shows in Skokie, a village on Chicago's North Shore. The program suits audiences interested in American roots music and the songwriting tradition behind Cash's catalog.
