Whitney Johnson/Lia Kohl/Macie Stewart, Duffy x Uhlmann, Claire Rousay DJ Set

A Los Angeles bill at Zebulon that pairs the improvising trio Whitney Johnson, Lia Kohl and Macie Stewart with the act Duffy x Uhlmann and a DJ set by Claire Rousay, in the electronic genre.

The evening at Zebulon, a Los Angeles venue for concerts and shows, combines the trio of Whitney Johnson, Lia Kohl and Macie Stewart, the act Duffy x Uhlmann, and a DJ set by Claire Rousay. The music on the bill is electronic.

Johnson, Kohl and Stewart play string instruments and use their voices alongside manual tape effect processing, building improvised pieces that move between serene and unsettling passages. Their work draws on the improvised music scene of Chicago, their hometown. Their album BODY SOUND opens with the single "dawn | pulse," a slow, undulating piece made of bowed tones and wordless singing. The track titles on the record borrow from Yoko Ono's book of text scores, Grapefruit.

For listeners interested in improvised and experimental sound, the trio's album offers a direct way into the work they will bring to the stage.
