William Basinski

William Basinski, an American composer working in ambient music, brings electronic music to Washington, D.C., at BERHTA, a venue that hosts concerts and shows in the city.

William Basinski is an American composer working in ambient music. Active since 1978, the composer released the debut album Watermusic in 2001 on Raster-Noton, the German label associated with electronic and minimal music.

Among the recordings that followed, The Disintegration Loops is built on tape loops that degrade as they play, turning repetition into gradual change. The work is a clear example of the slowly evolving textures that define the composer's approach.

The concert suits listeners drawn to slowly unfolding ambient and electronic music. BERHTA hosts concerts and shows in Washington, D.C., and this booking places the composer's long, texture-based work in its program. Listeners new to the catalog can start with Watermusic, the first album.
