in the dark - PULSE

A live show by the in the dark project, presented as PULSE, in which thirty performers move among a seated audience at Southwark Cathedral without a stage or amplification.

in the dark is a live project built around DarkSpatial, its own approach to unamplified sound and sonic choreography. Thirty performers take part, working without a stage or amplification, and the audience sits at the centre of the performance. Once eye masks are put on, the usual division between listeners and performers falls away, as musicians and vocalists move through and among the seats.

PULSE is the more energetic presentation of the format, with music that stresses movement, momentum and drive. Because the performers circulate, each seat hears the music differently, and the sound is never still. The show is designed to be felt physically as much as heard.

The performance takes place at Southwark Cathedral, a religious building on Cathedral Street in London SE1. The format will suit those interested in sound-led, participatory performance rather than a conventional concert given before a stage.
