Ceilidh

Ceilidh is a new musical presented on its London premiere, following earlier runs in Baltimore and Pitlochry. It is staged at Shoreditch Town Hall and built around Scottish dance and song.

The show is a new musical that draws on Scottish traditional dance gatherings. A lively caller leads the evening, and the audience is invited to join in the music and movement, so that taking part and watching are not kept apart. Beneath the dancing, a family story unfolds that deals with love, legacy and the meaning of the gathering itself.

Ceilidh was created by the duo Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie, who are credited on the earlier project Noisemaker, and it is directed and choreographed by Sam Pinkleton, a Tony Award winner whose credits include Oh, Mary!. The production has already played in Baltimore and Pitlochry before arriving in London.

The piece suits those who want a musical in which the audience is part of the event and the story is told through song, dance and narration. Shoreditch Town Hall, the venue, hosts concerts and shows in London.
