dissent

dissent is a new theatre production by debbie tucker green, staged at the Young Vic in London. It is a play that examines compliance and the questioning of authority.

dissent is a new play by debbie tucker green, a writer whose work is widely discussed in contemporary British theatre. The material describes it as an explosive piece, set around a society where state-sponsored comfort sits alongside a demand for obedience, and where the central pressure is to accept rules without question.

The production is presented as a play, so the evening takes the form of a performance on stage in the Young Vic auditorium, with the spoken text at its centre. The source lists several performances on this run, including sessions with audio description, captioned, British Sign Language interpreted and relaxed formats, which suggests the staging is open to a wide range of audiences.

The Young Vic hosts concerts and shows in London, and this production is one of its theatre offerings. Playgoers interested in new writing and in plays that question everyday conformity will find the subject direct and the production's approach typical of tucker green's work, which the material ties to earlier plays such as ear for eye and random.
