La Distance

La Distance is a theatre production by Tiago Rodrigues, staged at the Young Vic in London. The show is performed in French with English surtitles.

Set in 2077, when the Earth is suffering environmental collapse, the play follows part of humanity that has set out for Mars in search of a new beginning. Its central theme is a father trying to keep his bond with his daughter alive while her new life unfolds on a distant red planet, so the play deals with separation, hope and the relationship between parent and child.

The production is performed in French, and all performances carry English surtitles projected for the audience. The material describes it as an intimate and inventive play, presented at the Young Vic for a limited run. It follows a world premiere at the Festival d'Avignon the previous year.

The Young Vic is a London theatre that hosts concerts and shows. The production suits audiences interested in new theatre that treats a science-fiction premise as a vehicle for a personal story, and who are comfortable following a French-language text through surtitles.
