Jane Eyre

A musical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre, presented in its UK premiere at Southwark Playhouse Elephant in London. The production reworks the 19th-century story for a contemporary audience.

This production is a musical retelling of Charlotte Brontë's novel, which is described in the source material as having a gothic mystery, a theme of ambition and independence, and a central love story. The material presents the work as a UK premiere and says it has been given a new production that brings the story into the 21st century, with Jane Eyre portrayed as a feminist literary figure.

The musical is co-directed by John Caird, credited in the material with the international hit Les Misérables, and by Broadway veteran Megan McGinnis. The score is by Paul Gordon, whose previous work named in the material is Daddy Long Legs. The source describes the music as an epic, sweeping score. The material notes that the show has received five Tony nominations, a fact it gives for the musical as a whole.

Southwark Playhouse Elephant is a venue in London that hosts concerts and shows. The production will suit those interested in musical theatre and in adaptations of the Brontë novel, and the material indicates it is captioned for audiences who need subtitles.
