Jumpers

Jumpers is Tom Stoppard's 1972 comedy of murder, marriage and metaphysics, staged at the Hampstead Theatre in London. The production is listed on TicketMundi under stand-up and comedy.

The play opens with the Radical Liberal party newly in power after a landslide, and with a British moon landing as a backdrop. George, a Professor of Moral Philosophy, is trying to finish a paper on whether man is good, bad or indifferent when a party thrown by his wife Dotty, a reclusive former musical star, begins next door. The party features a full band and live acrobatics. Irritated, George makes an anonymous complaint to the police, who arrive the next morning for a different reason: a murder took place at the party, and Dotty is the prime suspect.

The piece is a comedy that moves between a detective plot and philosophical argument, with the marriage at its centre. It has not been staged in London for more than twenty years, and this production is directed by Blanche McIntyre, who has previously worked with Stoppard on The Invention of Love at the same theatre.

Hampstead Theatre, which hosts concerts and shows in London, presents this production as part of a run of Stoppard revivals. Captioned and audio described performances are scheduled for this run.
