Martin Guerre

A new version of the musical Martin Guerre, with new music, lyrics and orchestrations, presented at The Old Vic in London as a preview production of semi-staged performances.

Martin Guerre is a musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the creators of Les Misérables, and this production reworks their Olivier Award-winning show for the London stage. The story concerns a forbidden love, deceit and passion put on trial, and the material presents it as a reimagining rather than a revival of the earlier version.

The new staging features new music, new lyrics and folk-inflected orchestrations, and is presented in the round. It is directed by Matthew Warchus and is described by its producers as a preview production of semi-staged performances, running for a limited number of weeks at The Old Vic. The production is also offered in audio described, BSL interpreted and captioned performances.

The Old Vic is a London theatre that hosts concerts and shows. This production suits audiences interested in the musical theatre of Boublil and Schönberg and in a reworked version of a familiar score, presented as a first look at the new Martin Guerre.
