Operation Mincemeat

Operation Mincemeat is a musical staged at the Fortune Theatre in London, adapted from the story of a Second World War British deception plan. It is presented as a West End production.

The show takes as its subject a British deception operation carried out during the Second World War to conceal the 1943 Allied invasion of Sicily. According to the material, two members of British intelligence secured the body of a homeless man who had died after eating rat poison, dressed him as a Royal Marines officer and equipped him with personal items that presented him as the invented Captain William Martin.

The musical first developed at the New Diorama Theatre, where it built a strong reputation over four years before transferring to the West End in 2023. The production is performed by its ensemble, who were part of that earlier run.

The Fortune Theatre is a London venue that hosts concerts and shows. The production suits audiences interested in musical theatre and in the wartime story on which it is based.
